A group of past David Elliott students recently wrote him a letter on June 18, 2020 with a respectful request and call to action. We asked for a deeper and sustained commitment to BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, people of color) who invest in his work so that they can work with communities who often are left out of healing spaces, for more transparency around the lineage of this work and cultural appropriation, and accountability where past harm was caused during trainings. We recognized after receiving his response that there wasn’t an invitation to continue further dialogue. So after much discussion within the group, we also feel it would be of value to share our correspondence more broadly so that students and teachers within this lineage can have awareness of what conversations are happening and can choose to hold him and the teachers within the David Elliott lineage accountable. We are doing this because we believe in transparency of dialogue, as well as modeling openness and commitment to growing and changing which is a powerful offering for all students to see from their teacher.

We are divesting from David Elliott's trainings and will be reinvesting in each other through building a community with a foundation of anti-oppressive, anti-racist and trauma-informed care. We, individually and collectively, will continue to share breathwork that is rooted in ethics, access, curiosity, learning and mutual care.
